GMI About Us

GMI is the company you can count on

Since July 1984, Automotive and Dyno Division of General Measurements, Inc. (ADD/GMI) has specialized in providing reliable, reasonable priced state-of-the-art technology for engine and power train Computer Aided Testing Facility (CAT Workstation). Our technical staff has nearly more than one hundred years of combined test cell experience.

As a system integrator and turn-key engineering house, ADD/GMI installs more than 10 complete test cell instrumentation and control system each year. These test cells can be found in North America and Pacific Region Countries. Nearly 25% of those contain "Digalog Celllmate Systems"; the rest of them contain Industrial Grade "IBM PC" and its compatible or Micro-processor systems or PLC Modules.

Designing / Engineering:

Our experienced engineering staffs constantly evaluate new transducers and the latest techniques and modern digital instrumentation and control components to keep ADD/GMI system on the leading edge of test technology. All of our systems are created and documented using a CAD System.

GMI consists two divisions:

  1. Automotive & Dyno Division - ADD/GMI:
    Engine control & development system
    Engine Dynamometer test system
    Transmission Dynamometer test system
    Chassis Dynamometer test system
Mileage accumulation & emission chassis dynamometer
    Aircraft Testcell Contract Service

  2. Systems Engineering Division - SED/GMI:
Above specified systems' designing, building & installation, making test runs, and providing technical training for both hardware and software to the end users.

GMI engineering resources are also available to our customers for designing new test facilities. We can also offer consulting services for special applications, such as the Diesel Transient Test, EPA Test, Manual/Automatic transmission testing and Aircraft Jet Engine Test Stands.

We have our own software development staff for creating your specific application programs. These extensive data base of proven software programs that we have developed for other applications reduces program development time.

GMI will support and maintain your software - either at your site or over the phone via modem and fax/e-mail.

The primary goal of our production department is to assemble and deliver systems that arrive at site ready to run. We do have several ways to make this happen.

First, whenever possible, we design and integrate our own already proven technique and component into your testing needs. Second, we conduct a 10% quality check of all sub-assemblies and components purchased from outside selected vendors. Finally, all systems are assembled and fully checked out at ADD/GMI facility before shipment. For example, an Eddy Current or Hydraulic dynamometer test cell can be installed and commissioned within 10to 15 working days after the arrival at site. A DC dynamometer system - either static inverter or motor-generator type can be in operation within 15 to 20 working days.

ADD/GMI personnel will install the system at your facility on charge basis. By using our own staff and following standardized procedures, we can greatly reduce the time needed to get a test cell into real operation. We service and support the entire systems we sell - not with outside service organization but with our own in-house well-trained and qualified technician. In addition, we do have a worldwide agent/representative that have their service capability to support remote overseas customers. This capability allows us provide instrumentation control and test cell trouble shooting. Preventative maintenance programs and emergency response are also offered in some locations. In additional, over the Phone/Fax supports are always available at ADD/GMI.

Ultimately, your satisfaction with ADD/GMI system is going to hinge on how well your staff is able to use it. Once the system is installed, we provide extensive hands-on system training covering both the hardware and the software. We also conduct an one week "on-site trouble shooting" training class at our facility. As our goal is to enable each customer to become self-sufficient in the use and maintenance of ADD/GMI test cell systems.

Before GMI steps in:

Today's stringent test requirements at tougher specifications are simply beyond the capability of the older test cell installations. Their dynamometers can't hold the tolerance well enough, the ground loop and EMI corrupt operations -Sensors don't output sufficiently reliable data, and controllers don't respond quickly and accurately enough. In addition, manual systems are becoming extremely expensive to operate as labor costs continue to rise.

After GMI steps out:

Typical ADD/GMI installation features the latest digital technologies are highly reliable and capable of handling the most complex test requirements. Dynamom accuracy is greatly improved and sensors deliver clean, fast and precise data. The fully automated control system are simple to operate, yet they provide a wealth of very sophisticated data gathering, hi-low limits checking, safety featuring and many control capabilities.

Our Customers are wide spread in below fields:

  1. Car & motorcycle manufacturers and automotive component manufacturers.

  2. Research institute, such as National Defense Department, Air Force, Navy, Army & Arsenals plus private industry researches.

  3. Educational institute, such as University, college, graduate schools.

  4. Airline industries for maintenance & calibration of airplane equipment & instrument.

  5. Other industries, such as electronic, computers, hospital for special testing equipment.
